Zinc is an essential element found in many foods. It plays a role in numerous cellular metabolic functions. Other key roles of zinc include supporting immune function, protein and DNA synthesis, wound healing, and cell division.
Zinc also supports healthy growth and development during pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. The largest stores of zinc are found in skeletal muscles and bones.
Studies have shown that zinc gluconate has better absorption in humans compared to other zinc salts, such as zinc oxide.
The most common side effects of zinc supplementation, such as a metallic taste in the mouth, include gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Taking doses higher than 40 mg per day may reduce the body’s copper absorption.
Zinc reduces the absorption of antibiotics from the quinolone family (such as ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, etc.), cephalexin, tetracyclines (such as doxycycline, minocycline, etc.), and penicillamine, and should be taken with a minimum interval of 3 hours. Additionally, concurrent use of zinc with integrase inhibitors (such as cabotegravir, dolutegravir, elvitegravir) used in HIV treatment may cause interactions; consult your physician before use.
Vegetarians, dialysis patients, alcoholics, and those who have undergone bariatric surgery need more zinc.
In patients with Crohn's disease and short bowel syndrome, zinc absorption may be reduced and urinary excretion may be increased.
There are no specific contraindications.
Due to the amount of zinc in this product, be sure to consult a specialist before consumption.
Store at a temperature below 25°C, away from light and moisture, and out of reach of children.
