Liposofer ® Drops

Liposomal iron is encapsulated within a phospholipid bilayer, which enhances absorption and reduces gastrointestinal side effects. In this spherical structure, iron ions do not come into direct contact with teeth and gums, preventing tooth discoloration. Additionally, because the iron does not directly contact the gastrointestinal mucosa, common side effects such as nausea, abdominal pain, and constipation are avoided. Liposomal iron reaches the intestines intact and is absorbed through the intestinal walls—the primary site of iron absorption—without causing adverse effects. Another advantage of the liposomal structure is that it prevents interactions with dairy products and other medications while masking the metallic taste of iron.

Lipospher® is a 30 ml oral suspension drop with a delicious toffee flavor.

The iron in this product is liposomal ferric pyrophosphate, which does not cause tooth or gum discoloration and has no gastrointestinal side effects. This product is gluten-free. Liposofer is suitable for the prevention of iron deficiency anemia in children.

Therapeutic effects and pharmacology:

The most common cause of anemia is iron deficiency. Iron is a mineral that the body needs for growth and development. The body uses iron to make hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body) and myoglobin (a protein that delivers oxygen to the muscles). Iron is also needed for the production of certain hormones. In infants who are breastfed, the body’s need for iron increases after 4 months of age. Therefore, in addition to breast milk, iron supplements should be used to meet the child’s iron requirements. Long-term iron deficiency can lead to problems in physical growth, neurological development, mental and cognitive function, behavior, and memory in children.

Side effects:

Common gastrointestinal side effects of iron include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. In this product, due to the encapsulation of iron ions within a liposomal structure and the lack of direct contact between iron ions and the body’s internal surfaces, gastrointestinal side effects are minimized.

Drug interactions:

Unlike other iron products, due to its liposomal nature, this formulation does not interact with medications such as antacids, H2 receptor blockers, or proton pump inhibitors. Therefore, maintaining a minimum 2-hour interval between doses is not necessary.
Liposomal iron has fewer food interactions and can be consumed with dairy products.

Precautions and warnings:

People with normal iron levels should not use iron supplements on a long-term basis. In premature infants with low vitamin E levels, consult a physician before use. To ensure accurate and correct dosing, use the graduated dropper provided inside the package. Accidental or excessive intake of iron may cause poisoning in children; therefore, do not exceed the prescribed dose and keep out of reach of children.

Do not use this product if you have hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, or hemolytic anemia, or if you have a history of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of this product.

Storage conditions:

Store at a temperature below 25°C, away from light and moisture, and out of reach of children.
